Barbara M. Burns is founder and president of BBA Communications. She is an experienced advisor to senior management and an accomplished business writer and editor. Today, her firm specializes in formulating successful public relations strategies and programs and carrying out communication programs in the United States and major media markets globally. Prior to establishing her own consultancy in 2003, she traveled around the globe as Executive Vice President of the public relations firm owned by Grey Advertising, charged with building their PR unit through acquisition of agencies in Europe, Asia and Latin America. In addition, she managed multi-national marketing programs for major European clients of Grey.
Barbara began her international public relations career at a major pharmaceutical company, later joining their Brazilian agency in São Paulo for three years, followed by a stint in Geneva, Switzerland, as PR chief of a large corporation’s charitable organization. On returning to the U.S., she was Senior Vice President (International) for a major PR agency in New York. In addition, Barbara was trade representative in the U.S. for the French Port of Le Havre for nine years.
Barbara represents the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) based in the U.K. at the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UN DGC) and is an elected member of the Global NGO Executive Committee in New York. She is also a member of the French American Chamber of Commerce in New York.
