  THE ATLAS AWARD
for Lifetime Achievement in International Public Relations

PRSA International Section (Public Relations Society of America)

As recipient of the Atlas Award in 2001, Barbara Burns delivered the Atlas Award Lecture on International Public Relations at the PRSA Annual Conference in Atlanta, GA, October 2001. The topic she selected was appropriate to the occasion and the times: The NGO War Against Globalization: Implications for International Public Relations. Excerpts have appeared in Frontline, June 2002, published by IPRA (International Public Relations Association), and in PR Week, February 4, 2002, Thought Leader Column.

"The Atlas Award is presented annually to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the practice and profession of public relations on a global scale over the span of his or her career." PRSA International Section (Public Relations Society of America).

The Real Origins of Anti-Corporate Rage

"Our challenges are many. First, we must re-think corporate social responsibility so that it is more attuned to the present world situation... We must also enter into honest dialogue with different cultures and groups."

PR Week - February 4, 2002

"In rethinking corporate social responsibility, we must also make our messages more authentic. Corporate reputation can't rest on cosmetic slogans or ads."
